I have never had a bad experience at the Wayfarer and dine there frequently. The food is absolutely outstanding. Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, the originality and perfection of the meals is truly something to experience for yourself. The servers are loyal and attentive as well as personable and kind. They are some of the most hard working people I have ever met. If you decide to have breakfast, I suggest the corned beef hash. It is the most amazing thing I have ever tasted, and slow roasted and homemade each morning. The coffee is absolutely excellent as well. If you are interested in dinner, I suggest their famous "whole fried lobster." Lightly fried, the lobster meat inside is moist, juicy and tender while the outside is baked every so lightly for the extra flavor and texture. Not to mention, the lobsters are HUGE and served over a bed of delicious broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes. If you would like a true taste of Maine, this place is a must.

I love the Wayfarer. I've been frequenting this place when we come to our house in Maine for about the last 10 years and have seen it switch hands 3 times now, each person bringing their own new twist to the table, but I have to say the most recent chef is by far my favorite! They have offerings for every kind of eater: from the basic eggs, homefries, toast, to the tofu veggie scramble (amazing), to the corned beef hash (incredible) and eggs, to the oatmeal. I have pretty much had everything on this menu and have yet to be disappointed; seriously, everything is delicious and cooked to your precise needs. I have had dinner here only once a while ago and had the salmon, which was really good but this was before the current chef, so I'm not really sure my review on that is applicable. The BYOB is actually a nice little added touch! Also, some of the nicest, most wonderful wait staff I have ever encountered. Great place for a great breakfast and casual dinner, highly suggest going here!

We were so excited to see the Wayfarer reopen last month. Tastefully Updated decor. The best Eggs Benedict ever: perfectly cooked, great Hollandaise sauce, a twist on a classic with the addition of sautéed spinach and perfectly crisp home fries ! My friend had a great omelet filled with cream cheese, smoked salmon, caramelized onions, and sautéed spinach. Can't wait to try lunch and dinner, menus look very interesting as well. We'll be back soon. Maybe tomorrow.

Surf and turf special tonight was lobster risotto with tenderloin steak. Yummmm! I had a terrific spinach/arugula salad as a starter. I arrived early before most customers, and that made the meal even more special. Talked with Bert and Helene servers about the area, and we shared many common memories about Nunan's, Reilly's Bakery, and George's Subs. A friend and I dined after last week's Kennebunkport Christmas Prelude - this place is fine dining at its coziest! Looking forward to checking out their breakfast.

Wayfarer is now open again and better than ever. New owners, new chef. The owners could have opened at the start of the season but they waited to find the chef who would make the Wayfarer a place they wanted to run. They found that chef! I have been twice in one week and everything I ordered I would order again. Dinner both times, have not had breakfast or lunch. I love mussels but so often they are smothered in butter or cream. Once I finished all the shellfish, I used a spoon to eat the really delicious liquor that remained and it was really delicious without the rivers of fat that you so often find. The lobster cakes were full of lobster and fork tender. The salmon was a marvel of three dimensional construction every layer delicious. This is the only restaurant where I have seen fried whole lobster. That is what I am going back for next. It is a BYOB restaurant so this wonderful food can be matched with a great wine from your own cellar. Whats not to like! I am so happy they are 5 minutes from my house so I can grab a good bottle and have the food to go with it in minutes. I am a bit of a foodie and my standards are high. The Wayfarer meets them.

Green salad (spinach and arugula) was excellent with nice light dressing. Lobster rolls not worth eating! How, in August in Maine, do you get a bad lobster roll? It seems like the meat was previously frozen ?? if that's even possible here! The claw meat was average but the knuckle and tail meat was "chopped" and not edible. Service though was very good.

We stopped here for lunch on the recommendation of a friend. I had the shrimp po'boy (really a sandwich on a brioche roll) and she had the waffle with maple syrup and fruit. Both were excellent - the shrimp were light and crispy and flavorful with just the right touch of remoulade, and the waffle was crisp and light with ripe fruit. The service was excellent. The prices and the ambiance were great. We plan to return for dinner with a bottle of fine wine!

Bert was SO attentive! Never had less than half a cup of coffee. They do accept every type of card so or Amex was right at home. The pancakes are HUGE and served with fresh local real maple syrup. The homemade sausages were perfect. Seriously though, go here. We spent 25 dollars on breakfast for two people, so cheap.

Excellent food! Three in our party had the lobster Mac 'n cheese and loved it. I had the BLT which was served on homemade bread. It was delicious! The french fries appeared to be fresh made and were absolutely delicious! Our server, Tucker, was attentive and very nice. Would definitely recommend.

We love this place!! I would highly recommend their corn beef hash, and their chocolate chip pancakes for anyone with a sweet tooth. Be sure to arrive early on weekends, as it gets crowded!

Fantastic food, every time. I've eaten here countless times for breakfast and dinner since they reopened. Most everything is house made and the dishes change with the seasons keeping everything fresh and local. Atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. I would avoid the chicken pot pie and the bacon wrapped haddock. I have never seen the veggie dish but everything else on the menu is great. The salmon and pork shank really stand out. It's hard to go wrong here. Service is solid although the waitstaff seems to change often, except for Bert, who is reason enough to dine here. Water is always topped off, and servers check in with you early and often. BYOB is part of the charm here. They provide the proper glassware and tools to open your wine or beer. Overall this is a great Maine restaurant. A good blend of Maine quirks and refined dining. The perfect spot to be a regular if you are a local and a can't miss place for tourists.

The Quick: Perfect local breakfast spot. $5 side of Corned beef hash is MUST. Lobster options for breakfast and homemade bread and local jams at no extra charge. Great staff. The Details: Big portions at an accommodating local spot. The food was great; every detail was very "Maine" - local jams, lobster, healthy, homemade breads, etc. The side of corned beef hash was phenomenal so juicy and flavorful, with barley and potatoes. Make sure to make reservations for dinner as they are extremely busy on weekends. Pro Tip: BYOB so pop the champagne! The Damage: With a generous tip $20 each (and we had multiple sides and coffees).

We recently stopped in for breakfast and left five pounds heavier. Our meals were humongous pancakes with homemade sausage, vegetable omelet and chicken and waffles. The pancakes were the size of a dinner plate and warned our 11 year old of the size. I took the challenge and ordered the double stack. Wow the waitress wasn't kidding, I enjoyed every bite. The omelet was done just right and the chicken and waffles guaranteed us a return trip. Please take the drive out to Cape Porpoise you won't be disappointed.

Stumbled on this charming little spot while sightseeing. Had an amazing Lobster Grilled Cheese that included bacon and avocado. Husband had the lobster roll (probably the fifth one in seven days) and pronounced it fantastic. Lovely service, quaint interiors. Most of the diners seemed to know each other so I assume it is a favorite among local.

Giving it a four and not a five because I did not love the Wayfarer Benedict. Pork belly was too smoky. I've been here before for breakfast and the corned beef hash, like all the other reviews say is excellent. But the grilled blueberry muffin is the absolute best. Great spot for breakfast. Will for sure be back and will stick with the corned beef hash.

This place screams mediocre food. Order an overpriced gourmet hamburger with pork belly? The brioche bun fell apart and the pork belly was too tough to bite through. The batter on the fried chicken was abysmal as well. Capital C-R-A-P

Pretty much blew my entire "vacation diet" wad on this meal and couldn't be happier about it. We loved every detail. Our waitress was fantastically friendly and talkative but not over bearing, the oldies and motown music playing in the background, the beachy decor... It was absolutely darling. Let's talk about the food: I had the Wayfarer Eggs Benedict with lobster, house-cured pork belly and baked beans. All that I can say is that I am still salivating thinking about it. My husband had the homemade corned beef hash and eggs with roasted homefries. The hash was out of conrtol. Truly a breakfast that dreams are made of. Only downside? We went to have breakfast around 7:30 am and by 8:30 this place was packed! And for good reason. Can't remember the last time I have ever had a breakfast so decadent. Outstanding!

Delicious breakfast and very friendly service. My husband said that his corned beef hash benedict was the best benedict he's ever had. I can never choose between a sweet and salty breakfast, so the pier platter was perfect for me! Great coffee, too.

Staff friendly. Food insanely delicious. Atmosphere calm and homey. Very clean. We had waffles, pancakes, home fries and biscuits and gravy. Everything was exceptional. The pancakes were huge, and the best pancakes we have ever have. (We are from New York, land of everything delicious- but these pancakes were the best!) We saw the eggs Benedict come out featuring pork belly and lobster- and it looked insane. I recommend this to anyone who is in the area. Their dinner menu sounds good, too. They fry half lobsters....... I regret finding this on our last day of our trip. DE-LISH!

Everything was okay. Let's go with a positive sandwich. First, the staff was really nice, though we only interacted with our waitress and only saw one other waitress who served the women near us. My wife had the chicken "pot pie," which is a deconstructed pot pie. It sounded pretty intriguing, but, in truth, it was missing some elements. It didn't have a whole lot to make it flavorful, but the biggest thing, to me, was that it wasn't creamy. That being said, the dish was cooked well, I just think it fell short of the concept. I had the fried lobster, which was pretty good, but it's lobster in Maine. Finally, the desserts were pretty good; we had chocolate cream pie and blueberry crisp. Both were good, but the blueberry crisp is good for 2-3 people, not to try to limit you. Don't forget to BYOB!

Decided to go here for dinner after reading a few reviews and because the restaurant was a byob. We were 5 people and our minds were blown ! The star appetizer were the pork belly sliders ; the pork belly was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was right on. Each one of us had a different main which was great as we got to taste a little bit of everything. the lobster tortellini were fantastic with a light sauce , the organic salmon perfectly seared , the rack of lamb was huge and so savory , the chicken and waffles were incredible and lastly the fried lobster was out this world. We finished with the desert trio which had a great carrot cake , savory gingerbread cookies and ice cream and a cider donut bread pudding. To top off all the great food...the waitress was wonderful ! This restaurant is a must if you are in the area !

I wish I could give this 4.5 stars. We went with a large group of 14 on a Tuesday in the summer. I called ahead and spoke to Bert who was happy to check with the owner to see if we could be accommodated. By adjusting our arrival time, they were able to! The complimentary rolls were AMAZING!! I wish I had some now!! Many in our party ordered the chicken pot pie. The waitress was kind enough to explain that it was a deconstructed pot pie, so we would know what to expect. While it was not what I was expecting, it was delicious. Some in the group were disappointment and wanted a traditional chicken pot pie. (the one reason for my less than 5 star rating). My husband had the dinner special, duck with rainbow carrots, local potatoes on top of an eggplant puree. He said it was his best duck meal ever!! And he wanted to lick the plate clean. Other guests in our group had the pork chop, fried lobster and lobster mac and cheese. All were pleased. The desserts were amazing, I had the chocolate cream pie and others had the flourless chocolate torte. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. You could see whomever decorated kept it simple, yet reflective of the area. We highly recommend checking out The Wayfarer while you are visiting or if you are a local. The meals are fresh and use local ingredients. A creative chef with amazing staff!!

We normally love this place but last night they turned us away despite making a reservation because the hostesses wanted to close early. Be weary of the quiet months in Kennebunkport and get there early!

Best place around. They have a great, fun, busy atmosphere close to the water. Beautiful inside and fits the location nicely!

A new chef/owner took over and reopened the Wayfarer last September. What they have done with the space is really nice, the food was superb, the service was superb, it's BYOB which is great, and the prices are reasonable -- highly recommend. I went for lunch with a very large group, and they handled us beautifully. I had the pulled pork sandwich and fries, both of which were excellent. Everyone else raved about what they had. Looking forward to going back!

The Wayfarer is probably my new favorite restaurant in Kennebunkport. It is a little bit outside of town in quaint Cape Porpoise. They serve up delightful home cooked meals. The fried lobster, and spinach salad were delicious. Everything is cooked to order and it's BYOB! Their breakfast is supposed to be phenomenal. Looking forward to going back to try. Usually busy, reservations are a good idea.

Maybe we hit the Wayfarer on a bad day, but we didn't have the same experience as everyone else. We got to the Wayfarer shortly after noon today hungry for breakfast, but the hostess told us that we were too late. She said that they weren't serving breakfast and gave us lunch menus Our server Michael was awesome and was the high point of our experience. We ordered lunch, it was really slow to come out of the kitchen, and my chicken fajita special was surprisingly tasteless. Michael had warned me that it would be a little spicy, but I couldn't taste any hint of spice at all. My wife's salmon was okay and the portion size seemed generous. The coffee was nice, and good coffee is something that can't be taken for granted in the area. But then the most ridiculous thing happened. A table full of people sat next to us and ordered breakfast, and the person that took the order was the same woman who was our hostess! I'm not sure why these people were worthy of breakfast when we weren't, but it really ended any interest I have in ever going back to the Wayfarer. I'm glad that no one else seems to been as disappointed as we were and I hope it was just an isolated incident.

Wow. We fell upon this place driving around. What a find. I had sausage gravy with a biscuit. My friend had Lobster egg benedict with pork belly. The food was Excellent. We also shared a banana muffin which was made on the premises. The food was delicious. Presentation was well done. The service was phenomenal. The price was very reasonable. I would return and would definitely recommend.

Twice is not a charm. After the first visit for breakfast, which I would rate as average (1 person in our party did not eat his overcooked dried out eggs). I gave it another chance recently. For the second time, my poached eggs were well done even though I learned from the first time to request them to be cooked medium with a little runny yoke. When I told the waitress, she offered to have them cook me new poached eggs they came out with the yoke broken and overcooked again. I wasn't going to send them back again, but I was disappointed with my $11 meal that was supposed to be home made corned beef hash. Instead I got an extra large portion side of corned beef. It was so unappetizing. They should learn how to make real corned beef hash before they put it on the menu. To be fare, others in my party were pleased with their breakfast and I will say that the coffee was excellent and waitstaff friendly. I personally wouldn't go back because an egg should be a simple thing to get right.

I can't say enough good things about the Wayfarer, but here goes. We went for breakfast based on some t=of the reviews and returned for dinner. Breakfast: The whole menu looked excellent. They do their own baking, make their own sausage and use real maple syrup. We had the special - hummus omelet. Who would think of hummus in an omelet, and who would possibly order it? It was delicious with garlicky hummus, fresh spinach, peppers and olives. My significant other had the wayfarer Benedict. Wrap your head around this. Perfectly cooked eggs, home baked bread, hollandaise, pork belly and lobster. Back for dinner... The truly amazing thing is that we made dinner reservations before we left in the AM and talked about their fried lobster. When we got there tonight we were told that they had a run on lobsters, but kept two aside for us just in case. When was the last time that happened? One of us had the lobster and the other had the steak. Both were excellent. The lobster was surprisingly tender. It didn't look fried and had plenty of juice, but it was oh so tender. The steak was terrific. Perfectly cooked and wonderfully tender. Dessert was carrot cake and strawberry shortcake - both top shelf and made on premise. I can't say enough about the restaurant. The service was excellent, food was top notch. I'm not one for pretentious restaurants. There are others with nice water views and all that ambiance, which is good when you want it. For me, this may be my favorite restaurant in Maine and one of my favorites, period!

Best corned beef hash I've ever had! It's a small busy place everything is fresh and made in house. The sausage is ridiculous and bacon is nice and thick. Next time I come I am going to try their fried chicken and waffles ;) I live in Boston but I would drive all the way back JUST for the breakfast.

Open again and it is fabulous! My family and I have been coming here for over 30 years. This is the first time it has received a much needed facelift; the interior is fresh and handsome, but hasn't lost its charm. The food is excellent: during two recent visits standouts included lobster cakes, salmon, and haddock. Side orders are prepared with attention, they are not after-thoughts. As has always been the case, the service is super-friendly and attentive. LOVE IT!

Yelp is gonna censor my review anyway, but maybe I can get a few minutes of prime time to get the word out. I kept on saying, it is just around the corner, try it out!! But it just looked so K-port lame, so many joints around here serve the same old stuff for stenotic seniors looking for yachty remnants of Nr. 41. It took 4 months before we finally just walked in and tried it out, and boy what a revelation. To say this is the best restaurant in Cape Porpoise is not saying much, since there is really only one competitor, at least in the off-season months. To say this is the best restaurant in Cape Porpoise, Arundel, and K-port is perhaps an overstatement, but it is definitely in the top 3!! This is a new-owner real deal, with a chef who gives all his love to the ingredients first, and then to their preparation next. I can't tell what I like better, the way this dude cooks, or how unpretentious he makes it all, or combination thereof. Start with the turf: super juicy pork chops, nice and simple but with a complex sweet-umami glaze thang that reminded my little daughter of unagi, WTF!!, giant ribeyes cooked exactly the way you request, pork shanks braised to buttery perfection, chicken pot pie comfort. How about the surf: massive tuna steaks served pink and juicy on the inside; bacon-wrapped haddock, keeps the moisture in, flavah on the outside. Fried lobster, that can be tricky and tasteless, so you need some love to keep it moist and tender. Chunky fresh haddock chowdah with simple milky awesomeness. But this place really excels with the veggies: Brussel sprouts, it makes my heart weep just to think that a place would even bother, and make them so fresh, so juicy; baked brown beans, how unpretentious, but delicious, is that? Gratin of sweet potato, well, that gets an "A+". The only ball they fumbled was the dessert, but good coffee almost makes up for that. For those of you who like a glass of wine with your gourmet "just so"-ness, there is the added advantage of the BYOB. Here is the deal: If you want a stunner view, go to Pier 77 just down the road for drinks and raw bar. But if you seek fantastic grub, just make a reservation at the Wayfarer and support some culinary advancement in the Cape Porpoise marshy seascape!!

Went to the Wayfarer last night for dinner. The cast iron ribeye was the best steak I've ever had-absolute perfection. We loved every single thing about this place and would recommend to anyone in the area! Everyone was wonderful and so nice. Awesome people and even more awesome food! Hope to get back up to Maine soon for another beautiful meal!

New owners have changed the menu, much to dismay of locals and summer residents. Undercooked pancakes (on 2 occasions) and other careless mistakes are inexcusable. Some good items on menu are well prepared and renovated space is a terrific improvement.

  • Keila S.

We came here for lunch during the week and both ordered the salmon sandwich. The salmon was grilled to perfection and very fresh! However, we were very disappointed with the Blueberry Bread Pudding. The waitress said it would take 15 minutes...but the dessert came in about 5, which led us to believe it was not fresh. Indeed, the pudding was dry and not what we expected, and it turned out to be $7. What a rip off.
